GRAVITATIONAL FOOL (80 min) PREMIERED AT THE 2014 AFTERGLOW FESTIVAL, PROVINCETOWN MA founded by Quinn Cox & John Cameron Mitchell How often do we play The Fool? Throughout history society has often relegated the queer to the role of the clown, from sad Pierrot to the sissy, the funny fop to the lonely dandy. Backed by neo-cabaret band, What Time Is It, Mr. Fox?, singer-songwriter, 3rian King performs an internal/external wrestling match onstage with these characters. Through make-up, costume, monologues and original music, 3rian examines the ways these archetypes both empower and limit our identities and relationships. From soul-searing ballads to hilarious songs about “sex with the ex,” “Gravitational Fool” will cure you of your clown phobia. Elements of the show have also been performed at Oberon in Cambridge MA, Dixon Place in NYC, The Duplex in NYC, Galapagos in Brooklyn, Gloucester Stage Company in Gloucester, MA. JOHNNY BLAZES & 3RIAN KING DO YOU QUEER WHAT I QUEER? (90 min) PREMIERED AT 2016 AFTERGLOW FESTIVAL IN PROVINCETOWN MA, AND FEATURED IN THE I.D. FESTIVAL AT THE A.R.T. (AMERICAN REPERTORY THEATER) CAMBRIDGE. What's 10 years between queers? Born exactly 10 years apart, Johnny Blazes and Brian King are twin queens of song and glitter that share everything... except most of their cultural references. In the decade between their coming-of-age (or radically different “coming out” stories), social attitudes about gender, sexuality, and identity made some tectonic shifts. Searching for common ground, the pair walk a mile in each other's Doc Martens, exploring intersections and spaces between their versions of queerdom by interlacing story, song, and video to expose the gaps imposed not only in generation, but by geography, gender, and shoe size. JOHNNY BLAZES is a performer, educator, and author who is notorious for their exuberant and glittery approach to the stage and classroom. As a vaudevillian, Johnny has toured the US extensively with their solo theater piece, wo(n)man show, as well as presenting lecture/demos and workshops at colleges, universities, community centers, and kink conferences throughout the country. Johnny is a self-described ‘double triple threat’, having been trained classically as a singer, actor, and dancer in an academic setting, and subsequently having developed their voice in the folk arts of drag, burlesque, and circus through immersion in queer nightlife.
